The Advanced Building Skins Conference & Expo, held on 28-29 October 2024 in Bern, Switzerland, continues to be a premier international event dedicated to cutting-edge solutions in building envelope technology.
For over 15 years, it has brought together architects, engineers, scientists, and professionals from the construction industry across more than 50 countries, offering valuable opportunities for networking, learning, and collaboration.
At this year’s conference, the Increase project was represented by two leading experts in photovoltaic integration: Antonin Faes from CSEM and Stefan Dewallef from Soltech.
Their presentations were part of the session on "Integrating Photovoltaics into the Building Envelope," which focused on advancing the role of photovoltaics in building design.
Antonin Faes: Colouring Technologies for Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV)
Antonin provided an in-depth overview of colouring technologies for building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV). His presentation highlighted:
Current colouring technologies for PV façades, which are crucial for aesthetic integration into the built environment.
Insights into the performance and cost considerations of coloured PV modules.
The reliability challenges associated with coloured PV solutions, ensuring that aesthetics do not compromise the system's functionality and durability.
Stefan Dewallef: Dual-Function Façade Solutions
Stefan introduced innovative dual-function façade solutions, including:
Large-scale projects that combine solar and LED technologies, showing how these two technologies can be integrated into a single façade system.
Transparent LED solutions that not only offer energy generation but also enable new visual design possibilities for building facades.
The integration of photovoltaic systems to power media façades, bringing together aesthetics and renewable energy generation.
His session offered valuable insights into the broad potential of PV integration in architecture, demonstrating how innovative PV technologies can blend seamlessly into the urban landscape, contributing to both sustainability and design aesthetics.
